Can a document that has been electronically signed be altered?

It is possible to edit or alter a document that has been electronically signed, but this action would invalidate the electronic signature applied to the document, which can be immediately detected through the validation of the electronic signature.

As a clarification, the watermark or graphic stating "Signed by [signer's name] ..." would not be destroyed since this watermark or graphic is not a guarantee that a document is electronically signed.
