What is a Qualified Electronic Signature Certificate?

A qualified electronic signature certificate is a digital certificate that contains cryptographic keys, which are the elements required to perform electronic signatures. These certificates aim to unequivocally identify their holder and are issued by Trust Service Providers accredited and supervised by competent authorities.
In Spain, this role is carried out by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation. eIDAS accreditation in European Union countries for the issuance of qualified certificates is based on compliance with the ETSI EN 319 401, ETSI EN 319 411-1 and ETSI EN 319 411-2 standards.
